ABC legend and veteran journalist Kerry O’Brien has made a remarkable speech at the TV Week Logie Awards ceremony, after being selected for induction into the Logies “Hall of Fame.”
He took the opportunity to defend the ABC, saying it was being punished because of an “ideological obsession” against it by political forces.
He said financial cuts to the ABC were “driven more by the desire to punish.”
The former presenter of Four Corners, The 7.30 Report and Lateline also used the programme – which was being watched by a massive commercial TV audience – to call out the failures of the Australian journalism industry to properly outline the threat posed by climate change, and for not doing more to reconcile Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians.
